Game Recap: Baseball |

Madison Baseball outscores Triton in doubleheader

The WolfPack baseball team improved their conference record to 4-0 with 7-2 and 3-0 wins over the Trion College Trojans in River Grove, IL. The 'Pack received outstanding pitching efforts in both games, and outhit the Trojans 17-7 in the two games.

Madison didn't waste any time in grabbing the lead in the opener as they used two singles and two doubles to grab the 5-0 advantage. The WolfPack bats remained quiet in the next four innings, and Madison starter Westin Wuethrich shutout the Trojans until they plated their two only runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Madison scored solo runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, and reliever Jared Horton pitched a solid inning of relief.

Mike Jordahl led the team at the dish, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Nick Kanavas recorded two hits and one RBI. Besides Jordahl's double, Hurt got into the two-bag action, and both Matt Cole (2) and Tony Butler (1) added steals. With his strong six-inning performance, Wuethrich improved to 2-1 on the year. He allowed three hits, two earned runs, four walks, and struckout five. Jared Horton pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh, allowing two hits and striking out one.

The second game against Triton started off rather similar to game one as Madison scored two early runs, and the the WolfPack offense went silent…as did Triton's. Madison did add one more run in the fifth innings, and starter Ryne Blanton went the distance and only allowed two hits and four walks in seven innings for his third win of the season. Blanton also used five strike outs in the win, as he improved to 3-1 on the year.

Trevor Tunison led the seven-hit WolfPack offense. Tunison picked up his two hits in three at bats, and added the lone double for Madison. Mike Jordahl paced the team with two RBI, and Sam Hurt scored twice. Luke Yapp stole two bases, and both Mike Jordahl and Tony Butler added one steal apiece.

The 10-8 WolfPack is back at it tomorrow against the College of DuPage Chaparrals. The N4C doubleheader in Glen Ellyn, IL starts at 12:00 p.m.
