WolfPack Softball picks up two N4C wins

In their season debut at the Madison College Softball Complex, the WolfPack was also lined up to pick up two North Central Community College Conference wins against the College of DuPage on March 31. The home 'Pack didn't disappoint as the picked up 9-3 and 7-6 wins in Madison.
 
In game one the doubleheader, Madison struck first with a run in the bottom of the second, but the DuPage Chaparrals took the lead with two runs in the top of the third. Down 2-1 to DuPage, the WolfPack bats remained silent in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, before exploding for seven runs in the fifth inning for the 8-2 lead. Madison also scored one run in the sixth to go up 9-2 before DuPage plated a run in their short-lived comeback attempt, and the game ended 9-3
 
Brianna Smith was the leading hitter for Madison as she went 3-3 with a double and two RBI. Breanna Guenther, Ashley Marshall, and Sadie Holmes all finished with two hits, and Guenther and Nicole Hoffmann led the team with three RBI. Hoffmann and Guenther also doubled.
 
Courtney Boss started the game for the WolfPack and threw five solid innings. She did surrender 10 hits, but only allowed two runs and improved to 6-3 with the win. Jenalee Wilson relieved Boss for the final two innings where she allowed two hits and one run. She did pick up two strikeouts in helping to secure the victory
 
Once again, the WolfPack jumped out strong with three runs in the first and one in the second for the 4-0 lead. DuPage cut the lead in half with solo runs in the third and fourth, but Madison answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to give them the 5-2 lead. Just like the fourth inning, the two teams traded runs in the fifth to make the score 6-3 in favor of Madison. Madison then scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 7-3, before DuPage made one last ditch effort in completing the comeback.  DuPage put a scare into Madison, as the Chaparrals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but they couldn't push the tying run across the plate. With the N4C win, Madison College is now 19-7 overall and 2-0 in the N4C.
 
Three members of the 'Pack finished as the leading hitters for Madison, who was actually outhit by DuPage eight to ten. Kayla Crump, Kiana Smith, and Austann Abbot all finished with two hits. One of Abbott's hits was a double, and Crump and Sadie Holmes picked up steals. Kiana Smith led the team with two RBI, and Ashley Marshall scored two runs to pace the team. Hailee Jacobson had a short and effective start for the 'Pack as she only allowed one hit in two innings of work. She also struckout two. Ashley Stormer qualified and picked up the win to improve to 6-0. In three innings, Stormer gave up five hits and three unearned runs before being replace to start off the sixth inning. Jenalee Wilson tossed the last two innings and picked up the save, her second of the season.
 
The 19-7 WolfPack remain at home for their next game as they host Sauk Valley Community College on Friday, April 3. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 3:00 p.m.
