The Madison College softball team ended the day with mixed results, but at least they finished on a positive note. The 'Pack lost their opener 9-5 against the Southwestern Community College (IA) Spartans on March, before defeating the Oakton Community College Raiders 14-0.
Â
In the opener, the WolPack held a 4-3 lead after four innings over Southwestern, but the 'Pack couldn't hold the lead. Southwestern scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on two homeruns, and plated two more in the sixth after Madison scored in the top half of the inning, for the 9-5 win over the WolfPack.
Â
Ashley Marshall was the only WolfPack player to record two hits as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored, and one triple.
Sadie Holmes added the other extra base hit as she tripled, as well as finishing with a sacrifice fly, one RBI, and a run scored.
Â
Jenalee Wilson started the game on the mound and was saddled with the loss after allowing five earned runs in four and a third innings. Wilson fell to 2-2 on the year.
Ashley Stormer relieved Wilson for the last inning and two thirds, but didn't fare much better.
Â
Neither pitching nor hitting were problems against Oakton in Madison's second game as the offense belted out 12 hits, including two home runs for six extra base hits, and two WolfPack pitchers combined for nine strikeouts in five scoreless innings. The 14 run scoring differential was the WolfPack's best of the season after 16 games.
Â
Jessie Steindorf and
Elizabeth Chitwood paced the 'Pack at the plate as the two both recorded two hits in the lopsided win. Steindorf went 2-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored, and one double after entering the game in the third inning. Chitwood started at first base and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. She also tripled in Madison's eight run third inning.
Breanna Guenther and
Austann Abbott also added doubles, and both
Sadie Holmes and
Ashley Marshall recorded homeruns.
Sadie Holmes joined Chitwood with a team high three RBI, and
Kayla Crump led the team with three runs scored.
Â
Courtney Boss started the game and picked up the win after tossing three scoreless innings in the five-inning shortened game. Boss scattered three hits and recorded six strikeouts as she improved to 4-1 on the season.
Casey Beckwith threw two innings in relief and ended the game with three strikeouts.
Â
