Big Second Half Earns WolfPack Women a Trip to the Semifinals

The Madison College women's basketball team punched their ticket to the NJCAA Region IV Tournament on Thursday night with a big second half that ousted Mid Michigan Community College, 89-79. The WolfPack shot 50 percent from the field and were 7-for-8 from beyond the arc to outscore the visiting Lakers, 49-37, in the second half.

In the first half, Madison College's offense struggled to get going as they committed 10 turnovers and were just 2-for-6 from beyond the arc and 8-for-14 from the free throw line. The WolfPack trailed the Lakers at the break, 42-40, after a pair of Laker three-pointers to end the half. In the second half, Madison College shot well and capitalized at the free throw line, sinking 12 out of 17 attempts as three Mid Michigan players fouled out.

Former Monona Grove athlete, Taylor Nelson, led all players in scoring with 23 points, going 3-for-4 from three and 7-for-14 from the field. Nelson also got to the free throw line where she was 6-for-10. Nelson also made her presence felt on the glass where she grabbed nine rebounds while dishing out five assists. Her fellow backcourt mate, Kelly Calhoun, added 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting despite struggling with foul trouble. First year forward, Addison Hemming and guard, Jenna Endres, added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Former Rio athlete, Megan Petty, had a game-high 13 rebounds to go with her eight points.

The WolfPack victory advanced the team to play #2 seed, Milwaukee Area Technical College, in the NJCAA Region IV semifinal on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL.
