Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late surge forces OT, WolfPack fall late on Youth Day

An epic comeback from down 22 points with 7:36 left to play gave the Madison College men's basketball renewed life Saturday against Elgin Community College; however, in overtime the WolfPack failed to keep pace and lost 96-90. The game was played in front of a few hundred area youth basketball players as Madison College hosted its annual Youth Day, providing free admission and popcorn to those wearing their team jerseys.

Entering the second half down 11, the score grew more lopsided as the Spartans stretched their lead to as much as 22 on a couple of occasions before the WolfPack flipped the script and mounted a unthinkable rally. Trailing 75-53 after an Elgin basket, Madison College went on a 28-6 run to close out regulation and tie the game on Kristian Zimmerman's interior bucket with 21 seconds to play. The home team even had a chance to win the game in regulation after an Elgin miss with nine seconds remaining, but Zimmerman's three-point try as the buzzer sounded would not fall.

During that final stretch, the 'Pack put together smaller runs of 9-0 and 12-0 as they went 9-for-13 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and a 6-for-8 effort at the free throw line. The Spartans finished regulation shooting just 2-for-8 with three turnovers before regrouping to score eight of the game's final ten points and get out of town with a six-point OT win.

Three players scored in double-figures for Madison College, led by Kristian Zimmerman's career-high 22 points. The Green Bay NEW Lutheran product was 9-of-11 at the free throw line, but struggled to a 1-for-7 effort beyond the arc. Zimmerman not only scored, but he assisted on a team-high six baskets. Chase Ramos also established a new career-high point total with his 18-point outing. The first year guard from DeForest had a previous high of just three points in two games before coming off the bench to drill three 3-pointers, to go along with two additional buckets and five free throws. Second year guard Tyler Meier tallied ten points with a pair of hits from deep, but did most of his work on the glass with a team-best 14 rebounds for the first career double-double. Eight other players scored for the WolfPack, including Cortez McCree, Markus Tobias, and Joel O'Donnell with eight points a piece.

For the game, Elgin cashed in on 16 Madison College turnovers to score 23 points, though the WolfPack had a ten-point advantage in second chance points off of 22 offensive boards. The 'Pack controlled  the glass with a 55-37 advantage.

The home stand continues for Madison College on Friday, December 11 when UW-Waukesha comes to Redsten Gym. Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
