WolfPack women open hoops season with win

Box Score If the first game of the year is any indication of the season ahead, then coach Jessica Pelzel and the Madison College women's basketball team could be in for a great winter. The WolfPack opened the season Wednesday, November 4 with a 38-point road win over Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI.

Playing in ten-minute periods for the first time ever after a rules change to the collegiate women's format, the WolfPack took the game over in the second quarter, outscoring the Foxes 18-3 to assume a 23-point halftime advantage. First-year player Rachel Slaney, who had a decorated high school career helping Barneveld (WI) win back-to-back state championships and garnering all-state honors during three of her four varsity seasons, paced the Madison College offense with 11 points. Slaney filled the rest of the stat sheet with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Jenna Endres also reached double figures with ten points.

Madison College will enjoy their first action on the home floor with the Border Battle Classic November 6-7 at Redsten Gym. The WolfPack open tourament play against Anoka-Ramsey Community College on Friday at 6:00 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Gogebic Community College.
