WolfPack women push winning streak to seven at Carl Sandburg Classic

The Madison College women's basketball team added two more victories to their impressive win total, taking two games at the Carl Sandburg Classic in Galesburg, Illinois on November 20-21 to reach 7-0 to start the season. The WolfPack began the two-day event with a resounding 71-28 win over Black Hawk College-Moline, and followed it up by defeating host Carl Sandburg College by a 78-54 decision.

Tournament Game #1 - vs. Black Hawk College-Moline
Madison College raced out to a 10-0 start before giving up a basket, and kept pouring it on from there to lead 24-8 after the first quarter. The WolfPack defense held the Braves under ten points in three of the game's four quarters, including just two points in the second quarter to own a 43-10 advantage at halftime. In all, nine players scored and 14 saw playing time in the game. Second year guard Jenna Endres connected on four shots from beyond the arc en route to a team-high 16 points. Taylor Nelson finished with 14 points and a team-best eight assists, while Rachel Slaney nearly reached a double-double with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Madison College shot 43% from the floor and 44% from deep, but struggled to a 5-for-14 effort at the free throw line.

Tournament Game #2 - vs. Carl Sandburg College
The WolfPack trailed at the half against the homestanding Chargers, 33-31, despite each team holding a six-point lead at some juncture during the first two quarters. The third quarter told a completely different story, as Madison College outscored Carl Sandburg 28-3 behind a 9-for-14 shooting display from the floor and an 8-for-12 effort at the free throw line. Conversely, the Chargers missed their first 15 field goal attempts in the quarter before hitting a three-pointer in the final minute. Madison College also forced a dozen turnovers in the quarter, part of 22 total that led to 28 WolfPack points. Madison College also controlled the paint with a 36-10 edge on scoring in the interior. Three players reached the 20-point plateau, paced by a career-high 23 for Rachel Slaney. The three-time all-state performer from Barneveld also notched her second career double-double with a team-best 13 rebounds, to go along with four blocks and four steals. All-American Taylor Nelson and fellow guard Jenna Endres each finished with 20 points.

Madison College will attempt to keep the undefeated streak going on Tuesday, November 24 at Rochester Community & Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
