Men’s Soccer Falls to Rock Valley College in Overtime

In an important N4C showdown with the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles on Wednesday, September 30 in Rockford, IL, the host Golden Eagles got the last laugh after an overtime goal gave them to 2-1 win over the WolfPack. Entering Wednesday's game the two teams were very evenly matched as both Rock Valley and Madison College possessed an equal overall records of 5-3-2, though the 'Pack held a slight advantage in the N4C standings with a 3-2-1 to Rock Valley's 2-3-1 mark. Madison College defeated Rock Valley 2-1 earlier in the season to make the difference, but RVC got the last laugh in their latest face-off.
 
With the game scoreless through the majority of the first period, the visiting WolfPack struck first and jumped out to the 1-0 lead with a goal from Alfredo Ramirez-Pinho at the 40:30 mark. Bobby Beaudet provided the assist on Ramirez-Pinho's goal. Up 1-0 to start the second period, both teams remained quiet until Rock Valley finally got on the board at the 82:07 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Both defenses remained strong throughout regulation and the game was tied 1-1 after 90 minutes, requiring an overtime period. Madison College managed three shots in the extra frame, but none landed for goals, and the two teams were still tied after the first nine minutes of overtime. Rock Valley finally recorded their only shot of the extra period, and it landed as Alexis Galvez gave Rock Valley the lead and the win with a goal at the 99:04 mark in the game.
 
Overall, both team finished with an equal amount of shots (11), but Madison only recorded five shots on goal to Rock Valley's eight. John Arendt played the full 99:04 in goal for the WolfPack and finished with six saves.
 
Next up for the 5-4-2 and 3-3-1 (N4C) WolfPack is a conference game with the Joliet Junior College Wolves. The home game on Friday, October 2 starts at 4:00 PM. Madison and Joliet tied 1-1 after two overtime periods in the first meeting of the season. The WolfPack are also in a three-way tie in the N4C standing with Joliet and Rock Valley.
