Box Score The same day the Madison College women's basketball team moved up a spot in the NJCAA Division III Top 10 National Poll, jumping to sixth overall, they fell at conference rival Joliet Junior College. In a tightly contested matchup, the WolfPack lost 63-58.
The Wolves used a big first half, where they shot 48 percent from the field, to take a 37-33 lead into the halftime break. Madison did a better job defensively in the second, limiting their opponent to just 24 percent from the field, however their comeback attempt fell just a bit short.
In the second stanza, Joliet got to the free throw line more than the 'Pack, attempting 10 more charity stripe attempts. Though they hit just 14 of their 24 attempts for the game, the Wolves hit five more shots from the line than Madison, which proved to be the difference in the final score.
Despite having more bench points, points in the paint and points off of turnovers, the WolfPack had just two players score in double figures.
Chelsey Schulenburg led the way with 14 points, while
Meagan Mazur chipped in 10.
Kanitral Averhart finished with a game-high 21 points for Joliet Junior College.
With the loss, Madison College (16-7, 7-2) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. Things won't get any easier for the WolfPack in their next outing. The team is set to host previously ranked Milwaukee Area Technical College Saturday at 5 p.m., a team they needed overtime to beat earlier this season.
