Box Score The Madison College women's basketball team advanced to the NJCAA Region IV championship game with a 80-68 win over #7 nationally ranked MATC-Milwaukee on Thursday night in Glen Ellyn, IL. The WolfPack were led by second year post player,
Ellyn Hayden's 18 points and seven rebounds.
Thursday night's game was the rubber match of the season series against Milwaukee Area Technical College. The teams split the prior two games with each team winning on the opposing team's floor. On top of that, both prior games went into overtime. Luckily for the WolfPack, Milwaukee's best player, Ashley McHenry, was hampered with an injury and played just five minutes of Thursday's game. In the two prior contests she combined for 71 points and 19 rebounds.
Last night, the WolfPack struggled mightly out of the gate shooting just 13-for-40 from the field but led 36-30 at half thanks to 10-for-11 shooting from the free throw line.
In th second half, the WolfPack turned their shooting woes around shooting over 53 percent from the field and holding the Stormers to just 33 percent from the field. Madison College outscored Milwaukee 52-30 in the paint, led by
Ellyn Hayden's team-high 18 points including 8-for-8 shooting from the line. Hayden also added seven rebounds including five offensive.
Gabrielle Hood also hampered by injury pitched in with 17 points and six rebounds in just over 15 minutes of action. Teammates
Chelsey Schulenburg and
Meagan Mazur each contributed 11 points as well.
With the 80-68 win the WolfPack improve to 21-9 and will face the top ranked team in the country and two-time national champion, Rock Valley College. Rock Valley College beat College of DuPage 83-57 in their semifinal matchup. The NJCAA Region IV championship is at 1:00 PM at College of DuPage in Glenn Ellyn, IL on Saturday, March 1. The winner of Region IV championship advances to the 2014 NJCAA Division III national championship in Rochester, MN.
