Strong WolfPack First Half Quiets Stormers

Box Score The Madison College women's basketball team raced out to a 41 to 32 first half lead and held on for the 66 to 59 N4C conference win over the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers last Saturday, February 9. The road victory in Milwaukee wasn't pretty for the WolfPack, but the seven point win marked Madison College's fourth straight victory, all N4C conference games.

Although the WolfPack managed to pick up the win, the team was dominated in several statistical categories. The 'Pack actually shot worse than the Stormers from the field in the game 30.7 percent to 40.9 percent, were outrebounded 43 to 55, and were dominated in the paint 28 to 36; but the Stormer's 46 turnovers proved the difference maker in the N4C game. Madison College did commit 32 turnovers of their own to combine for 78 turnovers in the contest, but the WolfPack were able to take better advantage of their opponent's mistakes. Madison scored 23 points off of turnovers to the Stormers 12. The WolfPack also kept up their strong free throw shooting and outscored MATC-Milwaukee by six in the category (14 to 8), as well as scoring more second chance points (21 to 18).

Courtney Spangler once again paced the 'Pack in scoring with 19 points, while Chelsey Schulenburg and Ellyn Hayden scored 13 and 10 points in the conference win. Spangler knocked down six field goals on 18 attempts and shot 7-of-10 from the line, while pitching in seven rebounds (7 offensive) and a team-leading seven steals. Besides Hayden's 10 points, she hauled down a team-leading nine rebounds along with five steals. Schulenburg also recorded five steals as the high scoring trio combined for 17 of the team's 26 thefts. Calli Dahl led the team with five assists, a block and a steal; and Taylor Pfeuti snatched eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The 12-13 WolfPack (7-3 N4C) return home for their next game on Monday, February 11 against the Robert Morris University Eagles JV team. The nonconference game starts at 5:30 PM.
