Box Score Madison College just couldn't hold on. The WolfPack held a 34-32 halftime lead before the Hawks soared by the host team with a strong second half on their way to picking up the N4C win, 70-66. Madison College is now 4-20 overall with the loss, and 1-7 in the N4C conference.
The WolfPack were redhot from the field as the team took the two point halftime lead behind 15-of-25 shooting (60%) in the first half, including 3-of-6 beyond the arc. The 'Pack also won the rebounding battle in the first half (24 to 9), and bested the Hawks in points in the paint 20 to 10. The Hawks came out swinging in the second half both offensively and defensively as they quickly erased the two point halftime deficit with efficient shooting and effective defense. The Hawks forced the 'Pack into13 second half turnovers (25 overall), and racked up nine second half steals. They also maintained their solid shooting from the first half (43.3%) to the second half (43.3%), to ultimately win the see-saw style game that saw seven lead changes and four ties.
Despite the four-point loss, the WolfPack did place four players in double digit points with
Corey McGowan (14) leading the way. McGowan shot 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-5 beyond the arc.
Brandon Holz and
Dominic Fumbanks both put up 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. They both also pitched in one assist, and
Isaiah Nordeng led the team in that category with four. Besides the 11 points, Holz led the squad with nine rebounds (6 offensive), and Fumbanks registered seven in the loss.
Adam Ruka was the last on the team to reach double figures as he pitched in 10 points while adding eight rebounds.
The WolfPack remain home for the sixth consecutive game when the host the Joliet Junior College Wolves on Wednesday, March 6. The N4C conference games starts at 7:30 PM.
