Box Score The Madison College men's basketball team picked up their first home win of the season with a 80-72 victory over the UW-Marathon County Huskies Monday night in Madison, and in the process snapped a seven game losing streak. The win over the Marathon Huskies was the perfect tune-up before the WolfPack starts their conference season this Wednesday in Illinois.
The undermanned WolfPack team bested the visiting Huskies in several critical categories including defensive stops (39 to 31) and points in the paint (44 to 22) to jump out to a 45-31 halftime lead before sealing their second win of the season. The 'Pack also saw three players play the entire game and shot a deadly 56.9 percent from the field in one of their best games of the season.
Jason Miller led the team's balanced offensive attack by pacing the WolfPack in scoring for the third straight game with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. Miller also tied for the team lead by hauling down nine rebounds in 40 minutes of action. Newcomer
Adam Ruka (in his second game of the season) was right behind Miller and proved to be a vital post presence the 'Pack was lacking all year. Ruka scored his 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and tied Miller for the rebound lead with nine (4 offensive).
Isaiah Nordeng added 15 points in 40 minutes on 7-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with a team-high four steals, and
Dominic Fumbanks scored 14 points rather quickly in limited action. Fumbanks knocked down two three pointers and made four other field goals in just under 13 minutes of time on the court. Although sophomore
Ryan Plaice didn't lead the team in scoring, he did chip in 10 points while playing the point guard position masterfully all game for the victorious WolfPack. Plaice scored his 10 points while shooting 3-of-5 from the field while adding four free throws in four attempts. He also registered seven rebounds (impressive for a point guard), while dishing out a team high nine assists to go against only three turnovers.
Charlie Grafft also got into the action for the 'Pack and scored eight points, dished out four assists, grabbed three rebounds, and blocked one shot.
Next up for the 2-13 WolfPack is their N4C conference opener against the Triton College Trojans in River Grove, IL this Wednesday. The January 9 game starts at 7:00 PM against the NJCAA DII school. The WolfPack plays one more conference road game after that against Joliet Junior College before playing the first conference game in Madison on January 16 against the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers.
