The Madison College women's basketball team is heating up at just the right time. Thanks to a 63-54 victory at Gogebic Community College on Sunday, the WolfPack will enter their NJCAA Regional Tournament on a three-game winning streak.
In the first half things stayed close. The 'Pack would enter the break up just four points. Madison College hit 11-of-29 shots from the field (37.9%), while Gogebic made 12-of-22 (54.5%). Where the WolfPack was able to keep things in their favor was at the free-throw line. Madison made 9-of-12 from the charity stripe, giving their opponent just three looks from the line.
The WolfPack would really run away with things in the second half. Madison College quickly ran their lead up to 22 points, 58-36, behind a 26-8 run. While Gogebic was able to cut the deficit down to single digits it was too late.
Thresia Elskamp led the WolfPack offensively with 13 points, and six rebounds.
Tanya Kaufmann added ten points. Madison College was able to score 28 points off of 31 Gogebic turnovers. The 'Pack also won the battle of the boards 34-32, and outscored the Samsons bench 22-9.
Madison College (17-9, 5-3) will be the number three seed for the upcoming Region IV Tournament. They will host second seeded Joliet Junior College in one semifinal on Saturday, March 3 at 3:00 PM. The winner will advance to the final to be played on Sunday, March 4 at 12:00 PM. The tournament winner will advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.
