Kaufmann Has Huge Game as WolfPack Women Beat DuPage

It didn't come easy, but the Madison College women's basketball team got the victory over College of DuPage Saturday night. After being tied with the Chaparrals at halftime, the WolfPack pulled out the 49-44 victory to snap a three-game losing streak.

The 'Pack controlled much of the first half, leading from the opening basket until the 3:09 mark, despite making just 9-of-31 shots (29%). Madison College had ten looks from beyond the arc, but was only able to knock down one three-pointer. Tanya Kaufmann led the team with nine points, while Thresia Elskamp dished out four assists.

The game stayed close for awhile in the second half, but the WolfPack was able to take advantage of a 12-2 run to help them pull away. After Jasmine Macabulos hit a three-pointer to pull the Chapparals within one, 34-33, Madison College got baskets from Erin Fradette, Sakeenah Rashada, Courtney Spangler, and Tanya Kaufmann (twice). The run took the WolfPack from the 13:50 mark to 1:41. The 11 point lead with less than two minutes to go proved to be big enough for the 'Pack to hold on to.

Tanya Kaufmann finished with a game-high 23 points, and also added nine rebounds. No other member of the WolfPack was able to finish with double-digit scoring, although Thresia Elskamp did pick up 11 rebounds and seven steals.

With the win Madison College improved to 15-9 overall, and 5-3 in conference play.
