Women’s Basketball Splits Two Games in Black Hawk-East Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After several schedule changes, the women's basketball team from Madison College added two games to the docket on December 1-2 as part of the Black Hawk College-East Tournament. The 'Pack dropped their first game by almost 20 points (48-67) to the tournament host Black Hawk-East Warriors, before rebounding for the close 62-58 win over the Highland Community College Cougars in Sunday's finale.

Despite only shooting a shade under 26 percent from the field in their tournament opener against the Warriors, the WolfPack went into the half only down five points (27-32). Unfortunately the Warriors ratcheted up their defense even more in the second half and held Madison College to 21.8 percent shooting from the floor while shooting at a 53.3 percent clip themselves. In all, the Warriors outscored the 'Pack by 14 in the second frame on their way to the 48 to 67 non-conference win. Courtney Spangler led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Calli Dahl also reached double figure points with 13 rebounds while leading the team with three assists. Spangler also tied for the team lead in the steals category (2) along with Ellyn Hayden.

In the 'Pack's second tournament game, a four-point win over the Warriors from Highland, Courtney Spangler once again led the 'Pack with a team-high 25 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double, her fourth of the year. The post player for Walworth, WI, shot 10 for 20 from the field while making five of her six free throws in her 35 minutes on the court. She also chipped in one steal and two assists. Calli Dahl also reached the double digit mark in points with 11, and Chelsey Schulenburg led the team with five assists.

After splitting two games in the early December tournament in Kewanee, IL, the WolfPack are now 3-5 on the year and have a few days off before travelling to Iowa Falls, IA for a non-conference match-up with the Ellsworth Community College Panthers. The non-conference game starts at 1:00 PM against the NJCAA DII school.
