Women’s Basketball Tripped Up in Openers in Minnesota

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College women's basketball team was defeated in both of their opening games during the Sanford Worthington Regional Classic in Worthington, MN this weekend. The Minnesota West Community & Technical College Bluejays overpowered the WolfPack 55-68 in Saturday's tournament and season opener on, before the Riverland Community College Blue Devils cruised to a 48-63 win on Sunday afternoon.

In the season opener against Minnesota West, second-year post player Courtney Spangler put her best foot forward and recorded 31 of the WolfPack's 55 points, but four players in double-digit point totals gave the Minnesota West Bluejays the13 point win. First-year post Ellyn Hayden added 12 points in the season opening loss.

The WolfPack's second match-up of the tournament didn't turn out much different as the Blue Devils from Riverland used a strong 36 to 27 first half lead and held on for the 63-48 win. Terissa Bierd (13) and Courtney Spangler (12) led the 'Pack in points, and Taylor Pfueti chipped in eight in the 15 point loss.

The 0-2 Madison College WolfPack has less than a week off before making the short trip to Milwaukee for the Milwaukee Area Technical College Classic this Friday and Saturday. Friday's meeting against the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Golden Rams starts at 2:00 PM. The WolfPack's second game of the tournament against the Gogebic Community College Lady Samsons starts at 10:00 AM.
