WolfPack Soccer Loses Playoff Game in OT

The Madison College soccer team fell heartbreakingly short on Wednesday night in Oak Creek, WI as the 'Pack lost their first and only playoff game, 2-1 in two overtimes to the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers. The 2-1 overtime loss to MATC-Milwaukee ended Madison's post-season and season, but signs of improvement were shown by the young WolfPack soccer squad. Madison College lost both early season games to Milwaukee, 1 to 2 and most recently 2 to 8.

Ittay Rivas got the 'Pack on the board 24 minutes into the game as he scored his second goal of the season to put Madison College ahead in the quarterfinal contest. With the 1-0 lead, Madison College's defense stepped up in a big way as they held the Stormers scoreless until the final minutes of the first half. At the five minute mark, MATC-Milwaukee knotted up the game and both teams went into the break tied at 1-1.

The WolfPack offense couldn't muster any goals in the second half, but neither could the Stormers. After a brilliant first half of defense, Madison College's defensive players only bettered that early game performance in holding MATC-Milwaukee scoreless till the end of regulation to force overtime. It wasn't until the final minute of the second overtime period that the Stormers managed to score and end the game at 2-1.

Madison College goalkeeper Ian Murphy played arguably his best game of the season for the WolfPack as he rejected shot after shot. Murphy recorded 14 saves before giving up the overtime goal. The 1-15 Madison College soccer team has nearly a year to regroup and think about what was in 2012 and what could be in 2013.
