Courtney Spangler, and
Kinsey Mace combined to score 42 points (21 apiece) for the WolfPack Saturday night, and playing against Western Technical College the team needed every one of them. The Madison College women's basketball team picked up a two point victory, 81-79.
The 'Pack shot 53.3% from the floor in the first half, to the Cavaliers 32.4%, but outscored Western by just two points, 43-41. The back and forth battle continued in the second, with both teams scoring 38 points, as Madison College narrowly escaped with the win. In all, there were 17 lead changes in the game, with 15 ties. The WolfPack outscore their opponent in the paint 16-14, but committed 19 turnovers leading to 24 points for the Cavaliers. Madison got key contributions from
Tanya Kaufmann and
Calli Dahl, with Kaufmann tallying 12 points, and Dahl coming off the bench to score 13.
Madison College (7-2, 0-0) will now head to Scottsdale, AZ for the Bill Culver Memorial Classic. The team is set to play three games in three days, against two division two teams (Glendale CC, and Phoenix College), and division one Mesa Community College. The tournament tips off on Wednesday, December 28th.
