It took some time, but the Madison College soccer team has finally picked up their first win of the season. The WolfPack, which was giving up an average of seven goals a game, gave up just one goal to Waubonsee Community College in the victory.
Scoreless at the halftime break, both teams got things going in the second half. Madison College opened the scoring, with
Trevor Cervenka blasting one past Chiefs goalie Brandon Myers in the 69th minute (68:13). It appeared the lone goal would be enough for the win, but in the 88th minute (87:58) Waubonsee's Abel Diaz was able to beat WolfPack sophomore netminder
Eric Liegel. Tied at one after 90 minutes of play, the two teams were all set to head to overtime when Waubonsee failed to answer the whistle for the extra session. Liegel finished the day with nine saves for Madison College. The WolfPack, who fell to Waubonsee 3-0 earlier in the season, picked up the win despite tallying just two shots on goal for the game.
Madison College (1-14, 0-7) will host Harper College in their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 12th at 4:00 PM.
