After a pair of games that were separated by a combined seven points, the No. 1 ranked Madison College women's basketball team began the 2010-11 campaign with a two-point loss and a five-point overtime win. The WolfPack played two games in two days from Nov. 5-6 in Worthington, Minn. at the Sanford Worthington Classic.

The WolfPack and the tournament host, Minnesota West Community & Technical College, opened the tournament with a 35-35 tie at halftime. In the second half the WolfPack came up two points short of the tie and three points short of the win in the 70-68 loss to the Lady Jays.

Two second-year players came up big for the WolfPack in the road loss. Alicia Kopp led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Her teammate Thresia Elskamp was one rebound and two steals shy of a triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and eight steals. She also had five assists and four blocks.

It was the first time in three-straight tries that the Lady Jays were able to knock off the WolfPack in the season opener in Worthington and the first time since the 2007-08 season that the WolfPack lost a season-opening game.

After trailing Riverland College by two points at halftime, the WolfPack played tough in the second half an extra period in Worthington against the Lady Devils. The WolfPack went on to outscore their opponent 9-4 in overtime to get the 75-70 win and improve their record to 1-1.

Morgan Lass led the team with 15 points followed by Kopp and Elskamp who added 14 points apiece. The two also grabbed six and eight rebounds respectively in the overtime victory.

The WolfPack return home for the Madison College Border Battle Classic on Nov. 12-13, looking to build on their come-from-behind overtime victory over Riverland.
