WolfPack Take 2nd at Border Battle Classic

It was a pair of 20-point margins for the WolfPack at the Border Battle Classic in Madison on No. 12-13. Unfortunately they were on the wrong end on one of those margins of victory.

The WolfPack started off on the right foot in the tournament defeating Gogebic Community College 74-49. After the Lady Samsons scored the game's opening basket, the WolfPack took the lead and never trailed.

Second-year post player Alicia Kopp led the Wolfpack with 18 points and pulled down six rebounds. Morgan Lass added 10 points as did first-year reserve Rilee Schmitz on 5-for-8 shooting.

Thresia Elskamp scored just six points on 2-of-3 shooting, but contributed in alla spects of the game grabbing seven rebounds, handing out seven assists and recording five steals.

The WolfPack took advantage of 29 Lady Samson turnovers and in turn scored 29 points off of those turnovers compared to just six points scored off of 18 WolfPack turnovers.

Against the Eagles in the championship match, the WolfPack committed 23 turnovers, and this time the Eagles converted the WolfPack mistakes into 22 points in the 75-48 win over the WolfPack. The Eagles also outrebounded the WolfPack 50-34 and scored 13 second-effort points compared to just three for the WolfPack.

The WolfPack were led in scoring by Elskamp with 13 points and Kopp followed up her teammate with nine points. Jamie Nolan contributed with seven points off the bench.

The WolfPack next play at home on Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. against Division I foe Sauk Valley Community College.
