Harper College started the game with a bang and jumped out to a 10-0 run over the visiting WolfPack in Palatine, IL. The WolfPack got on the board five minutes and 21 seconds into the game after a
Kendra Mussehl (New Glarus, WI, New Glarus ) basket. The WolfPack cut the lead down to five at halftime, trailing 29-24.
Madison College came out of the locker room at halftime determined to take the led for the first time in the game. The WolfPack opened up the half on a 25-5 run and scored 10 points before the Hawks got on the scoreboard in the second half. Mussehl and Gabi Hungerford (Wild Rose, WI, Wild Rose ) led the second half charge by scoring 11 and eight respectively during the 25-5 run.
The WolfPack took the lead for the first time in the game with 17 minutes and 23 seconds remaining in the game and never trailed again. After building up a 15 point lead halfway through the game, the Hawks made a late rally and cut the lead to three with a Noreen Davis bucket. Despite the Hawks late surge, Madison College was able to hold on for the 59-53 victory and improve to 6-0 in the North Central Community College Conference.
Hungerford and Mussehl led the WolfPack in scoring with 14 points apiece. Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, WI, Potosi ) only scored four points, but was productive in other ways. She pulled down 8 rebounds, dished out six assists and had eight steals. The WolfPack bench outscored Harper College 25-4 and were led by Morgan Lass (Potosi, WI, Potosi) who scored 10 off the WolfPack bench.
The WolfPack play their second of three straight road games at Glen Ellyn, IL against College of Dupage on Jan. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
