Demetria Prewitt is entering her first season as an assistant coach for Madison College women's basketball after being hired in September 2026. Prewitt's first coaching position means a return to her hometown of Madison, Wisconsin.
Prewitt is no stranger to junior college athletics, as she won a NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship at Kirkwood Community College (IA) in 2023-24. As a freshman with the Eagles, the forward averaged 9.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, earning ICCAC Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-ICCAC, and Academic All-Region 11 as she helped Kirkwood finish third in the country. Back as a sophomore, Prewitt led KCC to the national title, averaging 15.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. She was named NJCAA First Team All-American, First Team All-ICCAC, four-time ICCAC Player of the Week, Academic All-Region 11, and NJCAA Division II All-Tournament Team.
Prewitt transfered to NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, where she averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds over two seasons with the Chippewas. During her time at CMU, Prewitt reached the 1,000-point plateau for her college career and earned Academic All-MAC, while also earning a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and a minor in Psychology.
Prewitt played high school basketball at Madison La Follette High School, where she was the Big Eight Conference Player of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA Division 1 First Team All-State, two-time First Team All-Big Eight Conference, two-time all-area by the Wisconsin State Journal, honorable mention all-state by AP Wisconsin, and was the Madison Sports Hall of Fame Club Sportswoman of the Year. She also holds Lancers records for points in a single season (412) and free throws made in a game (18). Prewitt was a seven-time honor roll recipient, and member of Black Student Union and National Honor Society.
Prewitt currently resides in Madison, where she enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, shopping, and trying new food places when not on the basketball court.
