Mike Van Veghel

Mike Van Veghel has served as the Madison College Athletic Trainer since 2004. In July 2025, he became the Athletic Department's first full-time trainer. Mike spent the previous 22 years working with the WolfPack through a service contract with UW Health. He has more than 30 years of athletic training experience. In 2011, Mike was honored with the Doug Redsten Memorial Service Award.

During Mike's time as a clinical and outreach athletic trainer with UW Health, he was worked extensively with Madison College student-athletes, as well as instructed PE classes. In addition to Madison College, Mike has spent time with various area high schools as an athletic trainer, including Sun Prairie HS, Columbus HS, Lodi HS, Randolph HS, Dodgeland HS, Wayland Academy, and more.

Mike has been a member of various professional organizations, including the Dane County Sports Medicine Council, the Wisconsin Athletic Trainer's Association, the Great Lakes Athletics Trainer's Association, and the National Athletic Trainer's Association. He has served on numerous professional committees and board positions, and served as the president of WATA. In 2012, he was presented the NATA's Distinguished Service Award, and was named the UW Health Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2008.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in athletic training from the UW-La Crosse in 1991, and an internship with the Green Bay Packers, he began his professional career with Physical Therapy Associates in Oshkosh, WI. One year later, Mike became a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with UW Hospitals and Clinics for two years, followed by two more years as the UW-Stevens Point Assistant Athletic Trainer, as well as a PE and athletics training instructor. 

An avid golfer and fan all all things "Wisco" sports, he currently resides in Cottage Grove with his wife, Annette. They have two adult children, Jake and Ellie.
