Jim Thomas is in his second season as the Madison Area Technical College head golf coach. In addition to coaching MATC Golf, Thomas is the general manager and head golf professional at The Bridges Golf Course. He is also the head boys golf coach at Madison Edgewood High School.
Coach Thomas’ philosophy of teaching golfers to play within themselves by playing smart golf and managing the course helped MATC to their first WJCAA state title since 1997. His Madison Edgewood High School team has experienced much success as well. Last year Madison Edgewood placed fifth in WIAA Division II and claimed their second straight Badger Conference title.
Coach Thomas was a three-time state tournament qualifier in golf for L.P. Goodrich High School. He turned pro before his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After college he became head golf professional at Minocqua Country Club at a young 23 years old.
Thomas was born on August 28, 1965 in Fond du Lac, WI. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. His wife’s name is Susan and they have four children, Jordyn, Brady, Alexis, and Chandon.
