Joe Hanson is the first head coach of the Madison College Esports program after being hired in September 2020 to lead the newest WolfPack program in its debut season. He is now entering his fifth year.
During his tenure at Madison College, Joe has won ten NJCAAE National Championships: Kaden Crockett claiming the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate titles in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021; the WolfPack Valorant team finishing a Grand Champion in Fall 2021 and a three-peat in Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Fall 2024; and the WolfPack Rocket League team claiming Grand Champion status in Spring 2023, twice in Spring 2024, and again Spring 2025. In addition, WolfPack Esports boasts six national runners-up and 19 NJCAA Academic Award winners.
Hanson has spent over a decade as an enterprise systems engineer in the Madison College Information Technology (IT) Department. Hanson, along with some of his IT colleagues, will usher the Esports team through the competitive, technological, and logistical challenges of the gaming world.
Hanson has added to his coaching resume with two years on the bench of the Stoughton Youth Hockey Association. From 2009 to 2011 he worked with the Squirt teams as an assistant coach.
Hanson resides in Stoughton, Wisconsin. In his free time, he enjoys playing hockey with his son, remodeling his home, staying current with technology, and, of course, playing video games.Â
