MADISON, WISC. - Sunday's Region 4 softball doubleheader between Madison College and Waubonsee Community College provided plenty of drama as the WolfPack secured two wins. Runs were produced early-and-often by both teams in the day's first game. A pair of early errors by Madison College resulted two runs for the Chiefs. The WolfPack answered with three runs in the bottom half, which started with freshman Sadie Svendsen tripling ot left. With two outs on the board, catcher Hayden Schabel lined a single to left to score Svendsen. After a walk of Raegen Schwarz, freshman Kelsey Meverden hit a fly ball that resulted in an error and two runs scoring.

Waubonsee evened the game in the second with a bases loaded walk from starting pitcher Sophie Golembiewski, but again the Pack bats responded. With a runner on and two outs, first year outfieldre Cassie Coffey hit a triple to center to score Svendsen. A passed ball in the next at-bat allowed Coffey to cross home for a 5-3 advantage.

The score became tied again in the fifth when the Chiefs took advantage of two hits and a walk to put runners on base, and then a pair of passed balls to score each run.

Madison College put up three runs in the fifth to regain the lead 8-5. Meverden singled in pinch runner Dalana Trumpy, Schwarz came in to score on an Addie Fritts ground out, and Meverden made it 8-5 when she scored during a ground out by Hanna Stremkowski.

After WCC closed the gap to two runs, the WolfPack used three hits and a walk to jump ahead 10-6. Schabel drove in Zegadlo with a productive ground out before Meverden singled home Coffey.

Unfortunately, Madison College was unable to close out the win in the top of the seventh, allowed three runs on three hits, two of which were doubles, and two free passes.

Sophomore Shelby Brooks regained the momentum for the WolfPack in the home half with a leadoff double to left field. After Svendsen moved her up 60 feet with sacrifice bunt, Zegadlo followed with a bunt of her own that was fielded by the pitcher. The throw home was late as Brooks slid safely across home for the walk-off win.

Schabel, a native of Iron Ridge, Wisconsin, and Meverdan, a Wausau, Wisconsin, native, each finished with three hits, two runs batted in, and a run scored. For both players, the three-hit game marked the second game this season with three or more base knocks.
