BEYOND THE GAME: WolfPack making an impact in the community

Student-athletes contribute nearly 200 hours during Athletics Day of Service

The annual Madison College Athletics Day of Service brought our student-athletes, coaches, and staff together for a day dedicated to giving back to the greater Madison community.

More than 75 student-athletes representing all ten WolfPack athletic programs participated, contributing over 185 hours of community service to seven community partners.

Our student-athletes volunteered at organizations serving a wide range of community needs, including food insecurity, literacy, youth and family services, environmental stewardship, housing and community development, and support for individuals and families.

Among the community organizations supporting this year's Day of Service were partners throughout the Madison area, including Madison School and Community Recreation, Literacy Network, Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS), Agrace, Second Harvest Foodbank, East Madison Community Center, and Madison Parks & Recreation.

Student-athletes assisted with projects ranging from grounds and garden maintenance to invasive species and brush removal, food-support initiatives, facility projects, and other activities identified by our community partners.

The goal of the Athletics Day of Service extends beyond accumulating volunteer hours. We want our student-athletes to understand what it means to become active members of the communities in which they live, learn, compete, and eventually lead.

We are extremely grateful to every community organization that welcomed our WolfPack student-athletes and provided them with meaningful opportunities to serve.
