LITTLE RIVER, SO. CAROLINA - The undefeated start to the 2025 season came to a close Sunday as the Madison College softball team was shutout 8-0 by St. Charles Community College to snap their six-game win streak. The WolfPack rebounded with a lopsided 14-2 drubbing of Mohawk Valley Community College in the nightcap.
Game #1: St. Charles Community College 8, Madison College 0 (5 innings)
St. Charles Community College (12-8) took an early 1-0 lead against
Brooke Steinhorst and the WolfPack, scoring on a run-producing ground out to
Maya Dzick at third. It remained 1-0 until the top of the third when the Cougars added a five spot thanks. They generated three hits, took one walk, and took advantage of two errors and a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
After a walk and a single to start the sixth, coach
Leo Kalinowski called on
Kendall Weik to take over in the circle, and while she prevented any runs from scoring in that inning, the second year hurler gave up two runs in the fifth to allow for the run rule to take effect.
Offensively, Madison College was limited to just three hits and only saw one base runner reach second base. Freshman catcher
Hayden Schabel was 2 for 2 with her second multi-hit game of the season, and
Ava Stahl had the team's other hit.
Steinhorst (2-1) took the loss after giving up six runs with only two being earned in her three innings in the circle. She was tagged for five hits and issued walks, while also fanning two. Weik allowed two runs, two hits, and two walks in her two innings, which did included four strikeouts.
Sunday's game was the first meeting all-time between the two programs.

Tailer Bartelt, who singled in
Jeneya Marquez Perez for the game's first run.
Hanna Stremkowski came in to score on a ground out by
Raegen Schwarz, and then
Rylee Rogers raced home on a wild pitch for the 3-0 lead.
After Mohawk Valley Community College (0-1) plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Pack tacked on two more in the fifth. Schwarz followed a Bartelt double with a two-out triple to make it 4-1, and then scored when
