MALTA, ILL. - Following more than a week without games, the Madison College softball team released their pent-up energy in a doubleheader rout of Region 4 foe Kishwaukee College on Saturday. Sophomore
Jenna Redders led the charge with a home run and seven runs batted in over the twin bill, which saw the WolfPack earn five-inning wins of 14-3 and 13-5 The victories push the Pack's win streak over the Kougars to 19 straight with the all-time series lead now at 24-15.
Game #1: Madison College 14, Kishwaukee College 3 (5 innings)
Madison College put five runs on the scoreboard before the game's first out was recorded. Freshman
Abbey Remington opened with a single, then scored as the Kougars committed an error on her attempt to steal second. Another error in the ensuing at bat brought home another run before Redders began her big day with a two-run single to center.
Karis Paulson made it 5-0 with a double that scored Redders, and a successful double steal between Paulson and
Tailer Bartelt pushed the differential to 6-0.
Kishwaukee got two runs back in the bottom of the first against starter
Kendall Weik, who loaded the bases on a walk and two singles to the first three batters. Back-to-back fielder's choice ground balls brought in a run each. The WolfPack responded with a four-run top of the second. Freshman
Brooke Anderson doubled to center to score
Mackenna Schultz, and Redder followed with a two-run home run over the wall in center field for her first career homer. It was followed by consecutive two-baggers from
Brooke Steinhorst and Paulson to make it a 10-2 lead.
Seven hits in the top of the third inning yielded another four runs for Madison College. Three straight singles loaded the bases for Schultz, who capitalized with a two-RBI grounder up the middle. Redders and Steinhorst each added a run-scoring double later in the inning as the differential reached a dozen. The Kougars capped the scoring with a run in the fourth.
Redders, a native of Middleton, Wisconsin, finished the opener a perfect 3 for 3, and established new career-high marks with three runs scored and five runs batted in.
Remington, an outfielder from Elkhorn, Wisconsin, matched Redders with her second three-hit game of the season. It resulted in two runs scored.
Four other players produced multiple hits as the WolfPack totaled 17 hits for the third time this spring. Schultz used her two hits to generate a career-best three runs scored and two driven in.
Weik (6-1) notched her sixth consecutive win by limiting the Kougars to three runs, two of which were earned, on two hits and four walks. The former Phillips HS athlete struck out six batters over her five innings.
Game #2: Madison College 13, Kishwaukee College 5 (5 innings)
Game two offered up a very similar storyline for the WolfPack. Consecutive singles by first year players
Abbey Remington and
Ava Stahl gave Madison College a quick 1-0 lead.
Jenna Redders made it 2-0 with successful ground out to first, and sophomore
Madison Coubal sent the first pitch see saw over the center field wall for a two-run blast that made it 4-0. The homer is the first this season and fourth career for the native of Muskego, Wisconsin.
After Kishwaukee College (7-12) played copycat with back-to-back singles to start the first inning and scoring a run, starter
Brooke Steinhorst settled in and stranded two runners.
It remained 4-1 into the third when
Karis Paulson singled to right to plate
Brooke Anderson. The Kougars responded with two runs in the home half to make it 5-3.
Madison College exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to take full control of the nightcap. The scoring rally included five consecutive hits, the last three of which went for extra bases. as Stahl,
Mackenna Schultz, Anderson, and Redders each drove in a run. Three more hits added Paulson and
Rylee Rogers to the list of run producers to make it 11-3.
Two more runs in the fifth made it 13-3 with
Jenna Johnson driving in Stahl and Paulson pushing in Johnson with a single. A two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth provided the final run differential, however, it was not enough to hold off the run-rule decision.
The WolfPack racked up 17 hits for the second straight game, led by a career-best 4 for 4 effort at the plate by Paulson. The Monroe, Wisconsin, native drove in a team-leading three runs and scored another.
Stahl was also perfect at the dish with a three hits, a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI. It's her second three-hit, three-runs-scored game this season.
Anderson matched Stahl with three runs scored, while also driving in a run, as she was 2 for 2.
Steinhorst (5-2) tossed five innings and struck out four batters to reach her fifth win of the year. She was credited with five earned runs on hits and three walks.

Madison College (14-3) will wrap up a road swing with a Region 4 doubleheader at South Suburban College (6-17) on Tuesday, April 9 after it was postponed on Monday. The WolfPack are 11-5 all-time against the Bulldogs, with wins in six straight meetings.
