MALTA, ILL. - The Madison College softball team took full advantage of their trip to Kishwaukee College on Monday, earning a resounding sweep of two Region 4 games in a combined ten innings. The WolfPack blanked the Kougars 11-0 in five innings to begin the twin bill, and followed it up with a 15-1 decision in five innings to generate their largest scoring differential in a doubleheader this season at 26 to one. With the two W's, the Pack now boasts a 15-game win streak over Kishwaukee College and a 20-15 lead in the all-time series.
Game #1: Madison College 11, Kishwaukee College 0 (5 innings)
Casey Fountain filled the role of pitcher and slugger in the day's opener, ripping a two-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning before also dominating in the circle. After Fountain's race around the bases, which drove in
Maddie Kvatek following her double,
Mia Noelker doubled to left, and
Makenna Gish and
Bri Unger followed with back-to-back run-scoring singles to make it 4-0 after the first half inning. Fountain then struck out two of three batters in the home half and the first of two routs was on.Â
Kvatek singled home
Brianna Brandner in the second, and a six run fourth inning put the game out of reach. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Fountain, and after a passed ball brought one run in, the Poynette, Wisconsin, native drove a pitch to the right field wall for a two-run triple. She would eventually score on Noelker's productive ground out, and three batters later,
Trista Ripp's three-bagger produced the WolfPack's final run of the game.
Fountain (10-2) struck out the side in the second to give her four consecutive K's, and whiffs of six of the first eight batters she faced. The right-hander finished with nine strikeouts to perfectly place her at 100 strikeouts on the season. She is two strikeouts shy of her mark from 2021, owns the eighth 100-strikeout season in program history, and is three away from tying Marissa Shaner for the all-time record in school history with 205. Fountain finished the game allowing a just one hit over five innings.
Kvatek, a native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, went 3 for 3 and was one of four WolfPack hitters with multiple hits. She scored two runs and drove in another. Fountain established a career-high with four RBI as she went 2 for 3 with a home run and a triple, and also scored two runs. Unger and Ripp rounded out the two-hit club, and were two of the four players with a run scored and one batted in. Of the WolfPack's 11 hits, five went for extra bases.
Game #2: Madison College 15, Kishwaukee College 1 (5 innings)
Another fast start with four runs scored in each of the first two innings put the WolfPack on track for a second straight run-rule win.
Sophie Rivera,
Makenna Gish, and
Ellie Rademacher all registered a run-scoring hit, with Gish driving in two in the first inning. Two hits, two free passes, and an error added up to the four runs in the second and an 8-0 lead.
The fourth innings saw the Pack generate five runs on four hits, three walks, and two errors.
Bri Unger,
Madison Eberhardt, Rivera, and
Kiana Patterson all picked up a run batted in as the advantage grew to 13 runs. The final two tallies on the scoreboard came in the fifth, and with one big swing of the bat from the team's smallest player.
Grace Madeiros smacked her first career home run, a two-run shot to left field, to make it 15-0. Kishwaukee College (4-33) was able to score a run in their final at bat to avoid being shut out of both games.
Madeiros, a former Beaver Dam HS athlete, ended the contest with a career-high four runs batted in as she went 1 for 2 with the home run and scored a run. Gish drove in three runs and score two more as part of a 2 for 3 effort at the plate for the West Bend, Wisconsin, product.
Rivera and Patterson also posted two hits as the WolfPack reach 14 base knocks, their fifth-highest single-game total this spring. Rivera also had two runs scored and two batted in, while Patterson set a career-high with three runs scored and one driven in. Unger matched Rivera with two RBI and two runs scored as she went 1 for 2.
In the circle,
Addison Warner improved to 5-2 on the year with one run allowed on two hits and three walks. The native of Gilman, Wisconsin, struck out six to tie her career-high.
