The Madison College softball team opened the 2018 NJCAA Division II National Championship with a 3-0 loss to Cowley Community College (KS) on Wednesday in Clinton, MS.
The game was scoreless until Cowley scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning on a one out walk, a stolen base, and a double. Cowley tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single and a home run.
Madison College was held in check and unable to generate any significant offensive threats as they collected only four hits in the game: singles by
Sam Schloegl and
Claire Brzenk, and two doubles by Ashley Kneisel.Â
Ali Walker pitched the first four innings giving up an earned run on one hit and three base on balls.
Emily Wiederholt pitched the final two innings giving up two runs on three hits.

Madison College will play in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. versus Mercer County Community College (NJ), with the winner playing again at 5:30 p.m.
