SEASON PREVIEW: 2025 Madison College WolfPack Women's Soccer

The Madison College women's soccer team was certainly one of the top teams in Region 4 last fall, and with a key missing piece returning from injury, as well as the addition of a competitive incoming class, the ceiling is high entering 2025. Head coach Logan Fye and his staff move into the second year running the program with visions of a deeper postseason run and a shot at the WolfPack's first appearance at a NJCAA national tournament since 2017.

“Heading into my second year with the women, there will certainly be increased expectations and goals, but I also expect to come across new challenges and obstacles. This year's group should have a lot of attacking talent and also experience in the back and in goal, which makes things very exciting. We added some tougher matches on our schedule this year, which should test us in new ways but also prepare us for the matches against the top teams in our region. We bring back key players from the 2024 squad and they have hopes of taking things at least one step further to be able to play at home in the Region 4 Championship game where we were unbeaten in 2024!”

Returners

The WolfPack brings back top goal-scorer in midfielder Suzy Hinds Cruz, along with fellow All-Region 4 honoree defender Maddie Cadd. The duo leads a group of seven players back from last season, including defender and captain Mirella Zielke after she sustained a season-ending injury in the fifth game of her true sophomore season. Other key returners are forward Ava Schmidt, midfielder Lexi Huebner, and goalkeeper Kaelyn Welch. Welch drew most of the minutes in net during her debut season, and held teams to a 0.67 goals against average with 41 saves.

“We are privileged to have this year's second year class, along with Mirella Zielke returning from injury, to lead this year's talented roster. The commitment that this group has shown over the course of the last year has been impressive to say the least. We had a very productive offseason and each of our second year players is poised to take the next step into bigger roles to achieve similar success to last year and hopefully beyond.”

Newcomers

A group of nine makes up the incoming class, which includes eight true freshman and one transfer. Forward Reese Brekke (Stoughton, WI/Knoxville, TN) transfers in from Pellissippi State Community College, where she saw action in four matches. Help on the attack will likely come from a pair of Sun Prairie natives, Emlyn Knutson and Chloe Voung, with the latter being the cousin of Madison College men's soccer all-time leading goal scorer, Gabe Voung. Defenders Emmy Troup (Green Bay, WI), who was named the Packerland Conference Player of the Year, Madelyn Marquette (Janesville, WI), and Alexandra Leal (Beaver Dam, WI) will add strength and toughness in front of the net. Leal was coached by former WolfPack goaltending great Brandie Gospodarek.

“This year's recruiting class has come together quite nicely with key players in each position joining the squad. I am excited to see how our transfers bring their previous experience into our program. And there's a great group of traditional freshmen in this team that should push to have their impact felt early on in the season. We had some holes to fill from last year's talented 2nd year class but I'm confident that we were able to put together a roster that can compete with everyone on schedule!”
