WolfPack matches record win streak with sweep of Kishwaukee

Pair of run-rule victories sends streak to a dozen games

MADISON, WISC. - For the second time this season the Madison College softball team can claim a 12-game win streak after a home doubleheader sweep of Region IV foe Kishwaukee College on Monday, April 23. The #15 WolfPack downed the Kougars by scores of 10-0 and 10-2 in five innings each to match their record setting 12-0 start to the season. The two wins also opened a busy homestand that will see the 'Pack play ten games in five days at Robert D. Goodman Softball Field as the regular season winds to a close.

Game #1: #15 Madison College 10, Kishwaukee College 0 (5 innings)

Madison College put up a single run in each of the first two innings, with freshman Hannah Grahl and sophomore Sam Schloegl picking up RBIs, before using back-to-back doubles from infielders Ashley Kniesel and Dany Gumz extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. The 'Pack put the game out of reach in the fourth with six runs on seven hits and an error, which led to three runs scoring on a ground ball up the middle with the bases loaded. The inning also featured a Paige Cornelissen triple to right that plated a pair of runs.

Schloegl and Katelin Gilbertson each had two hits and two runs scored, with Schloegl also driving a run. Similarly, Gumz and fellow first year Olivia Bancroft-Hart also posted two hits and a run scored, with Gumz driving an addition run. And Cornelissen and Grahl tied for team-high honors with two runs batted in.

Sophomore Emily Wiederholt extended her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 15 2/3 with five more empty frames. She gave up three hits and struck out five in facing just 17 batters, two above the minimum. 

Game #1: #15 Madison College 10, Kishwaukee College 0 (5 innings)

Madison College (34-7) jumped out early in the nightcap with a five-spot in the first inning. Freshman Dany Gumz drove in two with a single to center and first year catcher Maddie Krafcheck cleared the bases with a triple to right to cap the inning at five runs. A three-run third inning saw speedy freshman Maegan Brookins manufacture her own run with a line drive single and three steals. The WolfPack closed the game out in the fifth with a walk-off RBI single by freshman catcher Nicole Ferch to reach the eight-run threshold after five innings.

Brookins, Ali Braddock, and Gumz all had two hits and two runs scored. Gumz also drove in a pair to finish with four hits, three runs, and three RBI in two games against the Kougars (7-25).

Righthander Mackenzie Terrill spun five innings without allowing an earned run, as the two unearned scored came off of four hits and a pair of walks. The Milton, Wisconsin, product also struck out five batters.
