GALESBURG, ILL. - The Madison College softball team closed out a short two-day road trip with two more wins, taking down Carl Sandburg College in a Region IV doubleheader. The #15 WolfPack scored a 12-2 win in the opener and eeked out a 4-2 decision in the nightcap, bringing their current win streak within two of the record-setting 12-game streak that opened the season.
Game #1: #15 Madison College 12, Carl Sandburg College 2 (7 innings)
Following freshman
Nicole Ferch's two-run inside-the-park home run made it 4-0 in the fourth, the host Chargers pulled to within three and stayed their through the fifth inning. The WolfPack busted the game wide-open with a five-run, six-hit sixth inning that included a two-RBI double from sophomore
Bre Feiler. Three more runs and three more hits in the seventh - aided by a pair of CSC errors - extended the differential to ten.
Six different players had two hits in the game.
Sam Schloegl went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two batted in.
Ashley Kniesel's three runs scored were a team-best, and Ferch and Feiler joined Schloegl with two RBI.
First year ace
Alli Walker (9-2) earned her third consecutive win after striking out 11 batters to tie a career-high she set against then #1 Rock Valley College in her collegiate debut. The former Portage HS athlete gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk.
Game #2: #15 Madison College 4, Carl Sandburg College 2 (7 innings)
Carl Sandburg College (14-24) took an early lead in the second game with a run in the opening inning after a WolfPack error prolonged the inning. Still down a run through three innings, the Madison College (32-7) bats woke up with four hits and three runs to grab the lead for good. After the Chargers closed within one in the fifth, the 'Pack added an insurance run in sixth on an
Allison Tomlinson RBI double.
Sophomore starter
Hannah Wienen (5-2) closed the door on CSC with scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to secure. Rebounding from a rough outing the day prior, the Scales Mound, Illinois, posted seven strong innings with five hits and two unearned runs. Wienen struck out five and walked one.
Freshman
Dany Gumz went a perfect 3 for 3 with a run scored and one batted in, and fellow first year
Kylie Endres, a native of DeForest, Wisconsin, went 2 for 3 with a team-high two RBI.
The WolfPack has won four straight against Carl Sandburg, improving their all-time record to 7-3.
