Commanding win over DuPage sets WolfPack up for shot at N4C title

Madison College routs Chaparrals by 38, travels to #5 Rock Valley for season finale

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The Madison College women's basketball team wasted no time in putting away the competition Wednesday night, defeating the College of DuPage 78-40 to insure themselves a shot at the North Central Community College Conference title. Winners of six straight games, the WolfPack, who continue to receive votes in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll, will travel to Rock Valley College on Saturday to face the #5 Golden Eagles in the regular season finale. The two teams are separated by a single game atop the N4C standings, with RVC having clinched at least a share of their eighth consecutive league crown with their win over Triton College on Wednesday.

Holding a 13-7 lead more than six minutes into the action, sophomore Megan Corcoran ignited a 9-0 Madison College run to close the first quarter with five straight points, and the WolfPack owned a 15-point advantage. Back-to-back Corcoran three-pointers in the second quarter pushed the lead to 25 before the 'Pack took a 40-17 lead into halftime. The second half proved to be much the same, as the College of DuPage (3-20, 0-13) was never able to put together a rally while being held to 29% (16-55) shooting overall and committing 24 turnovers, which led to a 29-6 differential in points off turnovers.

Madison College shot 50% or better for the second time in three games, converting 32 of 60 attempts for a .533 percentage. The WolfPack also rebounded well, reeling in 43 boards compared to 29 by the Chaparrals. Additionally, the visiting team owned a 40-20 edge in points in the paint and a 10-4 lead in second chance scoring.

Corcoran paced all players with 23 points on 9 of 16 shooting, two 3-pointers, and 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Her 17th game of at least 20 points, including five straight, has pushed her average to 21.0 per game. Corcoran also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, falling one shy of her third double-double in the last four games. Defensively, the 5'10" guard/forward blocked four shots, extending her consecutive games with a block streak to a dozen.

Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven made half of her six field goals from beyond the three-point arc en route to 17 points, and making it ten straight outings with multiple three-pointers. Peyton Trapino finished an efficient 8 of 10 from the floor for 16 points, matching her per game average. The sophomore tandem tied for team-high honors with four assists each, while Udelhoven also was tops in steals with three.

Freshman Tianna Sackett continued her improved play, scoring a career-high 13 points in back-to-back games. The West Salem, Wisconsin, native was 6 for 11 with a three-pointer and hauled in seven rebounds.

The WolfPack is now 22-13 all-time against COD and have won ten straight.
