Workman-like effort sends WolfPack to easy win at Harper

Trapino's 24 points leads four players in double-figures

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILL. - In the first game back after suffering their only loss in North Central Community College Conference play, the Madison College women's basketball team took care of business in earning a 76-56 road win over Harper College on Wednesday night. The WolfPack, receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll, dominated the second quarter by a 16-5 margin to earn their 11th consecutive victory over the Hawks.

Trailing by four with three minutes left in the first quarter, Madison College rattled off seven straight points to take an 18-15 lead. Freshman Abby Meehan scored four of those points, while sophomore Peyton Trapino had the other three as part of a nine-point first quarter for the all-conference guard. The momentum carried into the second quarter and allowed the WolfPack to build a 34-20 advantage at the half following a 10-0 closing run.

Harper College (5-13, 2-2) closed the differential to eight points early in the third with a 10-4 push out of the locker room, however, Madison College was up to the challenge and answered by scoring 22 of the next 29 points to go up by 23. The lead reached a peak of 26 points on two occasions in the fourth quarter as the WolfPack improved to 13-2 in the all-time series.

Trapino scored 15 of the game-high 24 points in the first half as she made four of her first five shots. The native of DeForest, Wisconsin, finished 8 of 15 overall and 8 for 12 at the free throw line to fall a point shy of matching her career high from one game prior. Trapino also had a team-leading six assists, to go along with six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Megan Corcoran registered her second double-double of the season with 18 points and ten rebounds. The Madison La Follette product converted 7 of 18 shots including 3 of 10 from beyond the arc. The 18 points ends a stretch of five consecutive games with at least 20 points for the 5'10" guard/forward. One night after the win, Trapino (volleyball) and Corcoran (soccer), both two-sport athletes at Madison College, were featured in a story on WKOW 27 News.

Also in double figures were Abby Meehan and Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven. Meehan dropped in 18 points as she took the floor for the second time in the past five games. The Evansville, Wisconsin, native also had eight rebounds and two steals. Udelhoven buried three of her six attempted three-pointers en route to 13 points, while also adding eight boards and three assists. First year forward Jaylin Stueber was the only other player to score, with three points.

The WolfPack shot 45.3% (29-64) for the game and 37.5% (6-16) from long range, but struggled to make just 12 of 21 (57.1%) free throws. It's their ninth game this season shooting less than 60% at the charity stripe. Plus ten in the rebound column allowed the 'Pack to own a 10-2 edge in second chance scoring, while also turning 16 Hawks turnovers in a 21-11 advantage in points off turnovers and scoring a 40-22 lead in point in the paint.
