MS Class of 2017

WolfPack men’s soccer welcomes talented five-member Class of 2017

SPARTAN STRONG: Madison Memorial trio headlines incoming class

Head coach Cory Sims and the Madison College men's soccer team is excited to announce the addition of five incoming student-athletes for the 2017 season. The group includes Matthew Johnson (Madison, WI), Vital Nizigiymana (Tucker, GA), Marco Peruzzo (Vicenza, Italy), Sterling Sheley (Madison, WI), and Samuel Tazifua (Madison, WI). The group joins a team looking to capitalize on the momentum from the program's first North Central Community College Conference championship in 2016.

Matthew Johnson
Johnson is a 6'1" midfielder/forward from Madison Memorial HS, where he helped the Spartans to a 5-10-3 record as a senior. Johnson has also been a product of the Madison 56ers program.

Coach Cory Sims on Johnson: "Matthew is a very smart and very technical player. He is tidy in possession, and he understands the game very well. He's a great kid that comes from a great family, and I know he will be a positive addition to the school beyond the soccer pitch."

Vital Nizigiymana
Nizigiymana is a 5'7" center-midfielder from Tucker HS in Tucker, Georgia. Since graduating in 2015, he has played for the Futbol Club of Atlanta and the Madison 56ers.

Coach Cory Sims on Nizigiymana: "Vital is one of the most technically sound student-athletes we have welcomed into this program. He is quick and decisive in his decision-making. He is unselfish in his play, and quietly influences and controls the game. We are excited to watch him take the field for us this fall."

Marco Peruzzo
Peruzzo is a winger from Vicenza, Italy, where he played for Calidonense. Peruzzo was a three-time first team all-region player, earning MVP honors as a junior. He also was a member of the school's honor roll and recognized as Academic All-Europe.

Coach Cory Sims on Peruzzo: "Marco will be an excellent wide player for us. He has all of the skills necessary to attack and defend on the wing. He can create, support, and score goals. He'll be a nice addition to our attacking line."

Sterling Sheley
Sheley is a 5'10" midfielder who helped guide Madison Memorial to a 13-7-2 mark as a senior in 2015. In 2014 he was part of a Spartans squad that won the Big 8 Conference title with a 7-0-2 record. Sheley has also been a member of the Rush Wisconsin Soccer Club.

Coach Cory Sims on Sheley: "Sterling is a very gifted and technical player. He is versatile enough to play anywhere on the field, and will definitely make a big impact for us this season. His calm and confidence on the ball will be an essential asset to our unit."

Samuel Tazifua
Tazifua stands 5'11", plays both midfield and defense, and is a transfer from Edgewood College. He led the Eagles in minutes played after starting 17 games. In 2014, Tazifua was named second team all-conference after helping Madison Memorial HS claim the Big 8 Conference championship with a 7-0-2 record as a senior.

Coach Cory Sims on Tazifua: "Sammy possesses great understanding of the game, along with solid technical skill. He will add power, dynamic pace, and control to the center of the field. He is also mature, and is expected to be a leader in the locker room and on the pitch."

Madison College, coming off a 14-2-2 season that ended with the program's first appearance in the NJCAA Region IV Championship Game, will kick off the 2017 season with the first ever WolfPack soccer match at brand new Irwin A. & Robert. D. Goodman Pitch-East on Tuesday, August 22. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
