Following his first season as head women's soccer coach, Matt Schwartz's first full recruiting cycle has turned out a deep and talented group of ten student-athletes as the incoming Class of 2017. The group of Anna Cappaert (Cottage Grove, WI), Sarah Hamilton (Lake Geneva, WI), Madison Krohn (Edgerton, WI), Esther Noriega (Monticello, WI), Autumn Petroski (Watertown, WI), Britt Schumann (DeForest, WI), Sydney Schulze (Baraboo, WI), Annabelle Shere (Cottage Grove, WI), and Erin True (Cottage Grove, WI) all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the WolfPack.
Anna Cappaert
Cappaert is a defender who contributed three years on varsity at Monona Grove HS, scoring one goals and dishing out 12 assists, four of which came as a senior. She was named honorable mention all-conference in the Badger South Conference after helping the Silver Eagles post a 12-8-2 record in the spring.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Cappaert: "Anna is a physical defender that can win difficult 50/50s and distribute the ball to a teammate afterwards. She makes good decisions on the field and is generally in a great position to help her fellow defenders be successful."
Sarah Hamilton
Hamilton is a 5'2" center-midfielder that earned honorable mention all-conference in the Southern Lakes as a sophomore in 2014. In three years of varsity action, Hamilton and the Badgers went 25-29-10.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Hamilton: "Sarah is a versatile player that has a very high work rate no matter where she is on the field. She is technical and patient in possession. She will be a wonderful addition to the WolfPack this fall."
Madison Krohn
Krohn is a 5'7" goalie from Edgerton HS that helped the Crimson Tide to a 4-11-1 record in 2017.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Krohn: "Madison is a very good communicator and organizer from the back as a goal keeper. She is an extremely hard working player that hold herself to a high standard and is always there for her teammates. She is also a capable defender, able to win the ball and block passing lanes."
Esther Noriega
Noriega is a 5'3" center-midfielder who tallied 33 points on 13 goals and seven assists as a senior for the Sugar River Co-op (Belleville/New Glarus), helping the Raiders to the Capitol Conference title and a 21-2-0 record in 2017. A four-year varsity contributor, Noriega finished with 21 career goals and 16 assists over 79 games played, earning first team all-conference as a forward.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Noriega: "Esther is a fun midfielder to watch play her position, as she controls the game with her passing and can be a scoring threat, as well. I am very excited to have her join us this fall and am looking forward to seeing her apply her skills for the WolfPack.
Autumn Petroski
Petroski is a 5'1" defender who helped the Watertown HS Goslings to a 9-6-2 final record in 2017.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Petroski: "Autumn is an outside back that loves to get up the field and attack. She brings a work ethic and fitness level to the WolfPack that will add a very dangerous weapon to our defense and its ability to press with the attack."
Britt Schumann
Schumann is a 5'8" forward that registered 40 points over four years of varsity play at DeForest HS. She capped her prep career with an 8-4-3 season for the Norskies. Schumann is also a product of the Rush Wisconsin Soccer Club, where she was a team captain and scored 11 goals.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Schumann: "Britt is a dynamic striker that has great movement off the ball. She is excellent at getting herself in position to receive the ball and be dangerous for opposing teams."
Sydney Schulze
Schulze is a 5'5" forward who joins the WolfPack after three years of varsity play with the Baraboo HS Thunderbirds. She spent 2016-17 as a full-time student at Madison College.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Schulze: "Sydney is a very athletic striker that can get up and down the field quickly. She is able to find gaps in opposing defenses and make life very difficult for them."
Annabelle Shere
Shere is a 5'4" center back who played four years of varsity soccer at Monona Grove HS, finishing with three goals and six assists. As a senior she served as team captain for the Silver Eagles. Shere was a three-time all-conference honoree in the Badger-South Conference, earning second team as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore and senior. She also played club soccer for Wisconsin Rush.
Coach Matt Schwartz on Shere: "Annabelle is a very talented player that is athletic and physical. She can lead from the back line and control a game defensively. She is a valuable addition to the Wolfpack."
Erin True
True is a 5'0" forward that transfers to the WolfPack from UW-Eau Claire. Prior to her season with the Blugolds, True was a three-year letter winner at Monona Grove HS, earning second team all-conference honors as a senior and honorable mention accolades as a sophomore in the Badger South Conference. As a senior, True was a team captain, won the Team Player Award, and was selected as a Masonic All-Star following a 14-5-2 campaign in 2015.
Coach Matt Schwartz on True: "Erin is a speedy player that can find her way behind opponent's defenses quite easily. She is hard to keep track of and can add a difficult dilemma for defenders when she has the ball at her feet and can run with pace."
Madison College, which won a program record nine games last fall, will begin the 2017 season hosting North Central Community College Conference rival Rock Valley College on Wednesday, August 30, marking the team's first-ever action on the new field at Irwin A. & Robert D.
