UNCHARTED TERRITORY: WolfPack women headed to first Region IV championship

Sackett sisters net two goals, two assists in 3-1 semifinal win over Harper

MADISON, WISC. - It took four consecutive trips for the Madison College women's soccer team to finally get over the hump of the NJCAA Region IV Division III Semifinals, which they did Saturday at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East with a 3-1 victory over Harper College. Powered by two goals from freshman Tianna Sackett and two assists by her twin sister, Tierra Sackett, the second-seeded WolfPack will play for their first-ever Region IV title after eliminating the third-seeded Hawks. The win in the final home match of the 2017 season also gives the 'Pack a 9-0-1 record on the new turf.

Closing in on a scoreless first half, the program's all-time leading goal scorer, Britt Schumann, put Madison College on the scoreboard with a scoring strike in the 40'. The freshman's 25th goal of the season was assisted by fellow first year Tierra Sackett.

Tierra racked up her second helper when she combined with sister, Tianna Sackett, for what proved to be the game-winning goal. The 59' goal pushed the lead to 2-0 exactly three minutes before Harper College (12-7) beat goalkeeper Brandie Gospodarek to pull within one. The match remained tight until the WolfPack put the final nail in the coffin with an 88' goal to return the two-goal cushion. Once again it was Tierra Sackett with the successful kick off a pass from season assist leader, Peyton Trapino, who moved to within a single helper of tying the program's all-time career assists mark of 21.

The Sackett sisters, natives of West Salem, Wisconsin, amassed six points in the match, with Tianna reaching six goals on the year and scoring them all over the last seven matches. Tierra now boasts ten assists.

Statistically, the teams were very even throughout the match with six shots on goal each and a one-shot difference in total shots that favored Madison College, 11-10. The WolfPack took all three meetings with the Hawks in 2017, and now boast a 5-3-1 all-time record.
