WolfPack men lead wire-to-wire, pick up third straight W

21-point win is largest vs. Stormers in 16 years

MADISON, WISC. - Momentum is building for the Madison College men's basketball team, which is on a season-high three-game win streak after a resounding 78-57 win Wednesday at Redsten Gymnasium against in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College. The 21-point win is the biggest for the WolfPack in the I-94 series since a 74-51 victory in January 2001 and is the third triumph in the five meetings, pushing the Madison College lead to 52-45 in the all-time series with the Stormers.

The 'Pack led from start-to-finish against Milwaukee Area Technical College (8-10, 1-2), using a 14-4 start to grab a double-digit lead in the game's first five minutes, a run that was capped off by a thunderous follow up dunk by Shane Waldon. Madison College closed the half with a 9-2 surge to assume a 43-21 lead.

The second half saw the home team go on a 15-0 run over a four-plus-minute span to extend their advantage to a game-high 35 points at 66-31. The finishing touches on the win were nailed down by 5'11" freshman Tyree Young, scoring the WolfPack's final basket in emphatic fashion.

Both teams shot 36% for the game, however, Madison College knocked down five more three-pointers (9-4), led by three each from Young and Stavon Staples. The WolfPack also controlled the glass with a 53-40 disparity in total rebounds.

Young, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, paced a balanced 'Pack with 19 points, matching a career-high set on November 12 against St. Cloud Technical College. The guard was 8-of-17 on the night and 3-for-6 beyond the arc en route to his fifth-straight double-digit scoring game. He also had a team-leading four assists.

Four others were able to score in double figures. Paul Schmelzer III had 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half, and was one of three players to grab seven rebounds. Staples tallied a dozen points and five boards, while Joel O'Donnell had 11 points - all in the first half - and Shane Waldon ten. O'Donnell and Waldon also had seven rebounds

Madison College remains at home over the weekend as Wilbur Wright College (1-16, 1-2) comes to Redsten Gymnasium as the middle portion of a three-game homestand. The WolfPack are 11-3 all-time against the Rams, winning four straight and six of the last seven. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on MadisonCollege.TV or via the Madison College Athletics Facebook page.
