ROSEMONT, ILL. - The Madison College softball team appears to have found its footing at the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Dome Jamboree, winning two games on Saturday by scores of 7-4 over Prairie State College (non-conference) and 17-1 against Joliet Junior College. Through five games at The Dome at The Ballpark, the WolfPack have outscored their opponents 35-15 and are 4-1 on the weekend.
Game #1: Madison College 7, Prairie State College 4A five spot in the second inning blew open the lone non-conference game on the Madison College schedule for the Dome Jamboree. Tied at one after one, the WolfPack brought out the heavy lumber in the bottom of the second.
Lindsey Bollig opened with a double to right and scored on
Meredith Holt's single to right. Several batters later it was
Cheyenne Holmes at the dish with the bases loaded and two outs. Holmes singled to center to plate
Samantha Yaeger,
Brenna Seeber, and
Jordan Bell, making it 5-1 Madison College.
Brooke Heck took care of the final run in the inning with an RBI double to left, pushing Holmes around from second. Each team added a run in the fifth.Â
The WolfPack registered seven runs on 11 hits.
Brenna Seeber was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while
Meredith Holt and
Brooke Heck each finished 2-for-3. Holt drove in a pair of runs, though
Cheyenne Holmes tallied a team-high three RBI from one hit. Freshman
Hannah Jensen (1-2) earned his first career pitching victory despite four errors in the field by Madison College. Jensen limited the Pioneers to two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. She finished with four strikeouts and four walks.
Game #2: Madison College 17, Joliet Junior College 1 (5 innings)The WolfPack put the pedal to the metal in Saturday's finale against Joliet Junior College, erasing an early 1-0 deficit with six quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. That was followed up with five runs in each of the second and third innings before the game was called in the fifth on run rule.
The first inning explosion came courtesy of five walks, one passed ball, one wild pitch, one error, and one sacrifice fly. The lone hit came off the bat of
Brenna Seeber to drive in
Taylor O'Leksy for the final run. In the second, Madison College began making contact and tallied five hits - two of them doubles - to go up 11-1. The 'Pack batted around for a third consecutive inning to make it 16-1 after three. The Wolves issued five more walks and one hit by pitch in the inning, giving Madison College 11 bases on balls for the game.
In addition to leisurely strolls to first, the WolfPack finished with nine hits, led by
Danielle Savignac's two. The freshman from Wauwautosa, Wisconsin, drove in a team-high four runs.
Bailey Kratt made a dent in home plate, scoring a team high four runs. In the circle,
Jenalee Wilson improved to 3-1 with five innings of four-hit, one-run ball that included one strikeout and zero walks.
Madison College (4-4, 3-1), winners of three straight, will finish out their N4C Dome Jamboree schedule with one game Sunday against Harper College. First pitch is at 11:00 a.m.
