Leo Kalinowski will serve as interim Softball coach this spring.
Leo Kalinowski put Madison College Baseball on the map by winning three consecutive national titles in the 1990's and he is going to be back at it again with a different sport in spring of 2011. Kalinowski has been hired as the interim head softball coach and athletic academic advisor at Madison College.
"We are very pleased to now have an academic advisor dedicated to assisting the student-athletes at Madison College. We are also very excited to have a full-time softball coach on our campus," commented
Steve Hauser, Madison College Athletic Director. "
Leo Kalinowski is, first and foremost, a quality person who has long history of working with students to help them achieve success. Leo is an excellent communicator who has a proven formula for developing championship caliber teams at the NJCAA level. We are very pleased that he is taking on this role as we work towards great things in the near future."
Kalinowski won back-to-back-to-back NJCAA Division III national titles from 1995-97. These titles catapulted the baseball program to a perennial junior college power. Kalinowski retired from coaching Madison College in 2003 and moved to North Carolina.
Kalinowski came back to the area last year and joined the Madison College Baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach this fall when assistant coach, C.J. Thielke had a medical issue. Now, Kalinowski is taking on another challenge and is ready to get started.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to build the softball program into a national contender similar to the way our baseball program was built," said Coach Kalinowski. "I am also very much looking forward to working with our terrific Madison College student-athletes in both my roles as head softball coach and academic advisor."
