Tyler Jones became the 21st WolfPack baseball player to be drafted by a MLB organization.
Tyler Jones, who spent the last two seasons on the mound for Madison College, was drafted in the MLB's First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox.
Jones was a 21st round pick by the White Sox on Day 2 of the draft. The
White Sox went heavy in terms of selecting pitchers this year. They drafted seven right-handed pitchers on the second day of the draft in addition to
Jones. The draft lasted 50 rounds and 1,525 players from the high school and collegiate levels were selected by 30 MLB organizations.
Jones led the WolfPack with 77 strikeouts and 74.2 innings pitched. He was 9-2 with a 3.01 ERA and made 14 appearances this season. He threw complete games in seven of his 10 starts this season.
This is not the first time the WolfPack have seen a former player get drafted.
Jones is the 21st WolfPack baseball player to get drafted by a MLB organization and the seventh player to get drafted since Coach
Mike Davenport arrived at Madison College in 2005. He is the highest selection since 2004 when
Brett Scarpetta was selected in the 18th round by the Chicago White Sox.
