Erin grew up in Portage, WI, where she was a two-sport student-athlete at Portage High School. Erin was a two-year letterwinner in both basketball and softball for the Warriors.
Erin enrolled at Madison College in the fall of 2004 to play for second year head coach, Steve Bentin. In her first season with the ‘Pack she made her presence felt as she scored almost 10 points and grabbed almost six rebounds per game. Erin led the team in both field goal percentage and block shots while playing in all 31 games that season. Her team advanced to the national tournament for the third time in school history, placing fourth in the nation. Erin earned all-conference and all-region honors for her play as a freshman.
“Erin was extremely coachable from day one and became a very important part of our success,” commented former Madison College head women’s basketball coach, Steve Bentin. “In her two seasons, Erin progressed faster and farther than any player I coached.”
In her sophomore season, Erin and her team continued right where they left off during the prior year. The team scorched through the regular season, losing just a single game. The WolfPack were led by their outstanding second year center, Erin Voelker. Erin led her team with double-double numbers, averaging over 20 points and 11 rebounds per game. She improved her field goal shooting percentage to almost 50 percent and even went one for two from the three point line after not attempting a three in her freshman season. Additionally, she almost doubled her blocks from the prior season posting a Madison College single season high, 85 blocks. For her outstanding play, Erin was named all-conference, all-state, all-region and received first team All-American honors. The 2005-2006 team won two games at the national tournament in Utica, NY, to place third in the nation with an overall record of 32-2.
“I respected Erin’s work ethic,” said Coach Bentin. “The progress she made over two years allowed her to be our most valuable contributor on a very talented team that experienced tremendous success for Madison College women’s basketball.”
When the dust settled on Erin Voelker’s women’s basketball career at Madison College, she left the program as the leader in three statistical categories including blocks in a season (17 more than anyone), blocks in a career (28 more than anyone), and points in a season (44 more than anyone). Additionally, Erin still ranks third all-time in career points, second all-time in season rebounds, and third all-time in career rebounds.
Erin graduated from Madison College in 2008 with a Recreation Management degree and is currently employed in her field. Erin has worked for Wyndham Glacier Canyon in Wisconsin Dells for the past five years. She currently lives in her hometown of Portage, WI, even helping out her high school team looking to develop another Erin Voelker.
